In third grade, we not only work hard, but we play hard, too! Today was "Fun Friday" to celebrate how incredibly hard our students worked during RICAS. Students had an extra recess held by Mrs. Dorsey in the morning, followed by "Minute to Win it" in my class, and an "Escape Room" in Miss Martino's class. Ferreira's class dominated the escape room, but Martino's crushed Minute to Win It. We also finished reading Because of Winn Dixie and were able to watch the film this afternoon and compare/contrast the book to the movie. The students were completely on top of noticing things that were "off" from how it was told in the book, things that never happened in the book, as well as things that were left out completely. It was truly a fun day! Check out the slideshow below.

Mackenzie and William share their "proudest work" on the document projector. Each student had a chance to share what piece of writing they were most proud of. We have come SO far as writers and the students were amazed by what fabulous writers we have in our class.

On November 1st, we were lucky enough to have an assembly by Talk Works, an anti-bullying program, speak to our third, fourth and fifth graders. The assembly was skit based and students were invited up to role play! I think we have some phenomenal actors and actresses on our hands! I think they were ready to sign Sophia on as one of the cast. Not only did the students show what great improv actors they were, but they also showed how many strategies they already know to put a stop to bullying.

Halloween was SO much fun in 3F! Whether it was Halloween themed centers, including building arrays with candy corn...or posing for pictures, we had a blast!

Thank you to all of the amazing parents who sent in pumpkins, boat loads of supplies, and gave your time to help make our character trait pumpkins come to life! We couldn't have done it without you!

We met with our reading buddies this week and completed a fun, "What will my teacher be for Halloween?" project. I was a little scared going into it...They needed to say what we should be and give reasons why. I was happy to see that most thought I should be some type of food...specifically a donut (they know my love for a good gourmet donut!). Although, one did say a zombie because of my short fingernails (excuse me while I go work manicuring them better). Overall, their suggestions could have been a lot worse!

We are finally the "older" reading buddies! This year, rather than having an older mentor to look up to as a reader during reading buddies...we ARE the mentors! We are SO ready for this role. Last Friday we met our buddies for the first time. We are paired up with Mrs. Caswell's Kindergarten. We can't wait for our future meetings and projects that we will complete together!

Investigation 1.3- How much water can a dry sponge absorb?
This week we made predictions, learned how to measure mass in grams and how to weigh items with a balance scale. Ask us about our conclusion!
